SA Trade and Investment Minister Joe Szakacs Visits Balco’s Bowmans Site, Explores Latest Technology and Expansion Plans

On Thursday, South Australia’s Minister for Trade and Investment, Joe Szakacs MP, and Mr Adam Reid, Chief Executive DSD and their team visited Balco Australia’s Bowmans site, where company leaders provided a detailed overview of operations, recent expansions, and future growth strategies. The visit highlighted Balco’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and strengthening Australia’s agricultural sector.

Balco’s Chairman, Hunter Hu, and CEO, Rob Lawson, welcomed Minister Szakacs and introduced the Bowmans facility as a key processing hub for premium oaten hay. They also shared insights into Balco’s recent acquisition of the Monarto site, a strategic expansion aimed at increasing processing capacity and enhancing supply chain efficiency. With growing demand for high-quality fodder, the investment in Monarto represents Balco’s vision for long-term industry growth and regional development.

During the visit, Minister Szakacs and accompanying delegates embarked on a guided tour of the Bowmans facility, witnessing the company’s production lines and reviewed Balco Quality Systems in action, demonstrating the Paddock to Plate traceability. The minister observed firsthand how technology plays a vital role in streamlining production, from initial processing to final packaging, ensuring consistency in every bale of hay.

Discussions also covered Balco’s commitment to sustainable practices. The company continues to invest in environmentally friendly technologies and resource-efficient processes to reduce waste and enhance productivity.
